Art of Henna:

This is something which most of the gals love wearing, and is an art which in as inherent part of any function or festival. I still remember, as kids, we used to wait for the holidays to come (cos we were not allowed in school) and rush to the shop to buy a cone and use it to decorate our hands. This was like a half yearly ritual. Years later, I realized my love for putting mehendi and since then, have been practicing various designs on book or hands (whoever is ready to lend theirs J), but have never thought of taking pics. So the pics here are recent ones taken from my mobile. More pics to follow.

These were taken in 2007 when I put mehendi for my mom...

These r the ones which I put recently for my niece....

Knitting project

I have started recently on this project after getting inspired by a cousin of mine whose deft hands knitted a huge scarf within days. She taught me the basics and then I learnt the rest through Youtube videos. There are some really good videos which teach u the ABC s of knitting. I was not tat keen on knitting a scarf cos we rarely use scarves in our place where its blazing hot most of the time. I was in search of something which was easy to do and useful to all, when I found cellphone covers in the internet. .That was my first project. Although it took time to learn the variety of stitches, this holder was completed in 2 days. Right now, am working on knitting a purse for my mom.

Well, I wasnt very satisfied with the handle but I was desperate to complete it, so finished it off like this..

FEST IN TOWNSHIP

Every year in our township, we have this fest called “FOOD n FUN” where ppl can put up food stalls and prepare and sell food items. This year it was conducted on Sep 26, 2010 and arts and crafts stalls were also allowed. So I decided to put up my stall with the title “Fashion Jewellery”. It required quite an amount of preparation as I had to make various items for sale and I had no idea about the response nor the liking of the ppl in my place. So, I decided to make few pieces in all varieties so that I don’t invest too much. I started off with makin items like bead chains cos they r cheaper and have been attracting many ppl. I made 6 nos. in various colors and even sported one which matched my dress for the event.

Then made a few crystal and stone sets, both of which have that rich look but are a bit expensive.

I also made some pearls (white, pink and violet) to attract the attention of kids and old aunties.

The first thing I had decided to make was lotsa earrings cos they sell well and r affordable by one n all. So, I made many pairs of earrings with beads, crystals, rings, hangings…

Also, I made few bracelets-beads, crystals, pearls. I also made two pairs of anklets.

The event went off well and as I had anticipated, most of the earrings and bracelets sold off. Of course, it was a new experience for me and I learnt a few things about selling and marketing.
